Sweetheart Cake
My little lady turned 5 this weekend. She's such a little sweetheart, so that was our theme - hearts. She wanted a strawberry cake, which I filled with chocolate mousse and frosted with vanilla buttercream. Pretty good! The top tier was heart shaped.
I tried a new product on this cake. The hearts are all cutouts from edible paper from Wilton, called Sugar Sheets. The taste was okay, the texture was a little weird... kind of like paper that melts in your mouth after the first couple chews. I cut all the hearts on the Sugar Sheets using my Cricut. It worked awesome!
I also made the topper, matching banner, and dangling hearts. Sophia reminded me that we should cut some of the bleeding hearts from the yard and put them inside for decorations. So we did that, of course. It was a fun day for our little Sweetheart.

Graduation Cake for PLU and Army ROTC
I tried my best to copy the Lutes logo (from Pacific Lutheran University) on the top layer of this 2-tier cake. The top tier is an oval, which is the shape of the logo. The bottom tier is round and I did stars to bring in the Army logo/emblem (which is also on the banner). The top tier is chocolate cake, the bottom is yellow cake filled with chocolate mousse. The whole thing is frosted and decorated with vanilla buttercream.

Pirate Hat Cake
I was inspired by Disney's website for this pirate cake. Pretty simple and cute! Landon wanted this for his 5th birthday. His mom plans on putting gold chocolate coins all around it to make it look really festive. It's a yellow cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting (and lots of black food coloring!).

Alien Cake for Evan
Evan gets a cake every year from me for his birthday. Once boys are about 6, I have no idea what to buy them as a gift. So I started doing his cakes. This year he chose this alien invitation for his party and he requested brownies instead of cake. I didn't frost the sides since it was actually brownies. I supposed people don't need a lot of frosting on brownies. Evan also requested cake pops... I don't know how those are going to turn out yet, though. I did them once and they tasted great. We'll see how I do this time.

Strawberry Cake and Cupcakes for Ella
I LOVED doing this cake and all the add-ons. I made a strawberry shaped and strawberry flavored cake for Ella, along with some cupcakes, a cupcake stand, and a banner to match! I am very pleased with how it all turned out. Her mom had mentioned also thinking of a butterfly or bumble bee theme, so I decided to add on a couple cute little cake toppers. (And just a side note - there will be more cupcakes for the stand at her party.)

Toy Story Cake for Jacob
I had a request for another Toy Story cake, similar to my first one but with taller tiers. The bottom layer is chocolate cake with chocolate filling, the top is vanilla cake with vanilla filling. The whole thing is frosted and decorated with vanilla buttercream.
The red details are actually fondant, which I have only ever used for my first Toy Story cake. I like to create details in frosting for the most part. Sometimes I think fondant looks too much like play-doh on a cake. But for this cake, I wanted a nice flat red surface for the Toy Story Logo, and then just used it for the other little red circle details.
I hope Jacob likes his cake! His mom is planning to add some Toy Story figurines, so I left the blue top surface undecorated so she could arrange all the little guys there.

Red Velvet
My brother in law put in a request for Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for his birthday. I was so glad he did because this was my first attempt at Red Velvet. I like to test things on family first! :o) The frosting turned out a tiny bit too rich, but was REALLY good. Next time I'll use a little less cream cheese and shave a couple minutes off the baking time from the cake. Happy Birthday, Nick! Thanks for letting me try something new.

Thank You!
I just wanted to thank all my family, friends, and new customers for spreading the word and handing out my business cards. I have a lot of cakes scheduled for May and a couple in June. I would love to do more throughout the summer, so please let your friends know! This time of year brings a lot of parties: graduations, bridal showers, and baby showers. I would love to help with your next special day. I am available for last minute mother's day cakes, and don't forget about father's day!
